WHY CHOOSE ALAN’S BOOKS Alan’s skill area is in being able to deliver information in a simple easy-to-understand manner by use of analogies and the readers imagination. Over 600 first aid training organisations, ambulance services and colleges approved by the H.S.E., and thousands of individuals world-wide have or are still using his books.
STUDENT CENTERED
Alan’s style stimulates both the readers imagination and links that imagination to logic. For example, most people can relate to a ‘puncture’ and ‘mending a puncture’ and can have this image in their mind. He links this analogy to control of bleeding and thus creates an image whereby the reader learns and more importantly remembers.
* The Health and Safety Executive in the United Kingdom commissioned the St. John Ambulance to write a First Aid at Work manual prior to when the NVQ system was about to be introduced. Alan was asked to develop and write this manual and FIRST AID EXPLAINED is a descendant of that original publication. Up to now Alan has produced six book (lets) in response to demand in both content and cost. His latest one, Emergency First Aid at Work, satisfies the need for people doing the new one-day HSE course. Alan's background in training and researching ‘how people learn’ started in the '80s where he was responsible for developing training courses for the cabin service section of British Airways. Currently he is doing First Responder work for the South East Coast Ambulance Service on the south coast near Chichester. |
